The International Projects Office—UW-NU Partnership team partnered with the School of Education’s Global Engagement Office, the Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis Department, and Dr. Laura Dunek (UW System) to host Chinara Zhankenova, Senior Lawyer, NU Legal Department, as a visiting scholar during the spring 2020 semester.
As part of her stay, Zhakenova worked with Dr. Dunek on a project examining legal structures of signing authorities in a higher education institution. Although the last few weeks of her stay on campus were disrupted by the COVID-19 global pandemic, Zhakenova noted that:
“I had the opportunity to learn the system of distribution and delegation of authority of officials in UW–Madison and during the process learnt the story of how the system of distribution and delegation of authorities was built and how it works now. Also, I am glad that I was able to take part and personally see the work of the highest governing body of UW–Madison—the Board of Regents—where I was impressed with the magnitude of decisions made by this governing body. My experience at UW–Madison was enlightening, especially in the idea of creating and developing shared governance through such an institution. I would like to express a deep appreciation to the Global Engagement Office, Office of Academic & Student Affairs, and the International Projects Office for hosting and supporting me during my visit to UW–Madison.”
