Dr. Sumudu Atapattu is the Faculty Advisor for the UW–Madison Partnership with the University of Kelaniya (UKelaniya), Sri Lanka. As part of her role as faculty advisor, she is responsible for facilitating and coordinating engagement between the UW team and their UKelaniya interlocutors. Dr. Atapattu is the Director of Research Centers and Senior Lecturer at UW Law School. She is also the Executive Director of the Human Rights Program at UW–Madison. Dr. Atapattu’s other UW–Madison affiliations include the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, the Center for South Asia, and the 4W Initiative. She holds LL.M. (Public International Law) and Ph.D. (International Environmental Law) degrees from the University of Cambridge, U.K., and is an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. Her research and teaching interest focus on international environmental law, climate change, and human rights.
